Robert Farmer

International Performer

Robert Farmer was born in Perth to hearing parents, and grew up with three hearing brothers and one Deaf brother. After leaving school, Robert started out as a bricklayer but decided to take a leap on an exciting career change.

He joined the Australian Theatre of the Deaf (ATOD) in 1993 and remained as a cast member for four years. During his time with ATOD, he travelled around Australia and performed in a number of plays and shows for schools and the community.

In 2002 Robert was invited to perform at Deaf Way II, an international Deaf Culture celebration in the US. This was Rob's big break as a solo artist comedian and performer specialising in stand up comedy and visual vernacular.

One of Rob's best known shows is titled "Deaf Man Walking", which has been performed in over 60 countries during the years Rob has been touring. Rob is also a teacher and mentor for aspiring comedians and performers, and he has delivered performance workshops and classes all over the world.

In 2006, Deaf youth in WA were lucky enough to have Robert come back home to conduct acting classes that lead to a community performance of a play.

Rob also performs with ensemble casts and has performed with Teater Manu in Norway, and Revy Banana in 2003. Other productions that Rob has performed in include 'Odyssey' in 2007, 'A Christmas Tale' in 2008 and the '3 Men Show' in 2012. Rob has performed at International Deaf events such as Clin D'Oeil in Riems, France, the 2005 Deaflympics in Melbourne, and Deaf Expo in Las Vegas, USA.
