Peter Minchin

1941-2002

Peter Minchin was a talented artist and could work across all kinds of mediums. Over the years, he created many banners, posters, flyers, portraits & caricatures for the Deaf community. Peter was a man of exceptional artistic skills, there was nothing that he couldn't do.

Born in 1941 in Perth, Peter was born Deaf due to his mother contracting German Measles (Rubella) whilst pregnant. He was the oldest of five children.

He attended Mosman Park School for Deaf Children, boarding at the school during the week for most of his schooling from 6 years old to 16 years old. From the early age of 5, he displayed exceptional talent in drawing & painting.

After he left school, he worked as a a signwriter and silk screen printer at David Jones, then worked on murals for Boans. He studied portraiture and still life art under the tutelage of Owen Garde and was one of Owen's best students. He also studied commercial art and later worked for the School of Distance Education for over 10 years illustrating text books for schools across WA.

Peter moved to Queensland and married, and had four children which he dearly loved. Peter died in 2002 from a long illness in Western Australia.
