Interpreters at work & play
Interpreting takes place every where in our community. From classrooms to courtrooms, operating theatres to theatre performances, weddings, parties and funerals, interpreters are privy to every aspect of Deaf people's lives.
While most people are increasingly familiar with the sight of an Auslan-English Interpreter, Deaf Interpreters also play an important role in providing access to the Deaf Community. WA has been at the forefront of training and credentialing for Deaf Interpreters. Two WA interpreters, Josie Hodgetts and Patricia Levitkze-Gray were the first Deaf interpreters in Australia to be awarded NAATI Recognition by John Beaver, NAATI CEO. This set the pathway for the first Diploma of Interpreting course being made available to Deaf candidates.
